DeVilBiss

An icon in the wood coating industry

DeVilbiss was founded in 1888 by Dr. Alan DeVilbiss, the man who invented the first spray gun for healthcare applications. That revolutionary technology, combined with his iconic name, is now powering our professional wood coating solutions. We never stop working to revolutionize and improve spray technology to enhance speed, efficiency, color accuracy, and above all, the finishing quality of wood products.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of spray gun is best for automotive?

HVLP spray guns are ideal for base coats and topcoats as they minimize overspray and improve transfer efficiency, saving paint and costs. Trans-Tech spray guns (like many other DeVilbiss models) provide slightly higher spray speed and output while still meeting transfer efficiency requirements. For best results, professional painters often choose high-performance spray guns like DeVilbiss DV1 or GTi Pro Lite, specifically designed for automotive base coat and topcoat applications.

What's the difference between HVLP and LVLP spray guns?

HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) spray guns use high air volume at low pressure to spray paint, minimizing overspray and increasing transfer efficiency. They are ideal for achieving smooth paint surfaces while minimizing material waste. On the other hand, LVLP (Low Volume Low Pressure) spray guns use less air, ideal for paint shops with smaller air compressors. LVLP guns also create less overspray and can better control detail areas requiring painting, although spray speed may be slower than HVLP guns.

What nozzle size is best for automotive paint?

The ideal nozzle depends on the type of paint you’re spraying.

  • For base coats, typically recommend using 1.2mm to 1.3mm nozzles. They provide fine atomization capability, giving even and smooth coverage.
  • For topcoats, nozzles with diameters from 1.3mm to 1.4mm are best, allowing high-quality finish coating with appropriate flow.
  • For primers, use larger nozzles, like 1.7mm to 2.0mm, to handle thicker materials and create even surfaces.

DeVilbiss provides various gun head sizes for most gun types, helping you choose appropriately for materials and work requirements. For more detailed information, please refer to these resources in our automotive refinishing center.

What maintenance is needed to keep my spray gun working like new?

Regular cleaning after each use is crucial. Use appropriate solvents and cleaning tools to remove material residue. Regularly check and replace wear parts like needles, nozzles, and air caps to maintain optimal spray performance and quality. Using spray gun cleaning solutions or spray gun cleaning kits can make the job quick and easy.

Can I use disposable cup systems with DeVilbiss spray guns?

For best results, we recommend using DeVilbiss DPC (DeKups®) disposable cup systems, designed to reduce cleaning time and prevent contamination. DeKups® are compatible with all types of coatings, incorporate mesh filters, and have convenient scale markings for accurate coating measurement.

Please call Nhat Quan Industrial Co., Ltd. at 0908 050 415.

Gun vibrating, what should you do?

Tighten the fluid needle to 15-20 foot pounds torque and tighten the fluid needle head.

How to fix spray gun with heavy spray pattern on top or bottom?

You can rotate the air cap 180 degrees and if the heavy pattern changes, the air cap may be dirty or damaged, but if it doesn’t change, the fluid head may be dirty or damaged.

Can DeVilbiss bumper pads be used on primed bumpers?

Current bumper pads are strong enough to sand most primed bumpers. However, they are not hard enough to level the primer coat (remove uneven spots) on the bumper.

One can use current bumper pads to clean and degrease primed bumpers. However, they will not effectively level the primed surface and will still need to be sanded.
